Galveston County commissioners redrew precinct map after primary, citing goal of electing more Republicans
On June 29, 2026, the Galveston County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to adopt new precinct boundaries for county commissioners, constables and justices of the peace, after the March 2026 primary had already been held under the old map and before the November general election. County Judge Mark Henry said the redraw would help in "turning Galveston County Republican," and the county separately told a federal court the new map mooted an ongoing 2021 Voting Rights Act lawsuit over the prior boundaries; voters and a county constable sued, arguing some residents would never vote for the same office under both the primary and general-election maps.
