Colorado Springs police officers tased suspect and threatened to kill him during 2025 arrest, federal judge found
On June 17, 2025, Colorado Springs officers Ryan Paine, Daniel Mork, and Kirby chased and arrested Anthony Miranda following a theft call, tasing him at least five times while Officer Kirby pressed his service weapon to Miranda's head and threatened to kill him as he lay pinned face-down. In an August 24, 2026 suppression order, U.S. District Senior Judge William J. Martínez found the tasing and death threat had rendered Miranda's statements from that phase of the encounter involuntary and suppressed them, while separately upholding the legality of the initial stop and Miranda's later, Mirandized statements.
