Trump alleged Wayne County vote fraud without evidence, warned of a 'Rigged Election' after El-Sayed's Michigan primary win

On August 5, 2026, President Trump posted on Truth Social that Wayne County, Michigan, home to Detroit, is "one of the most corrupt voting areas in the United States," claiming without evidence that "more votes" were cast "than there are voters" and warning of "fake mail-in ballots" before urging Michiganders to "get ready for another Rigged Election." Haley Stevens -- President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that Wayne County, Michigan, home to Detroit, is "one of the most corrupt voting areas in the United States, if not the World," calling it "strictly Third World." Trump claimed, without evidence, that "miracles happen in Wayne County, including more votes being cast than there are voters, by a lot," and warned that "fake mail-in ballots" would "surprisingly" appear "at the last moment." He closed by telling supporters to "Get ready for another Rigged Election" and to "make Michigan TOO BIG TO RIG" ahead of the November general election, in which El-Sayed will face Republican Mike Rogers.

Trump made the claim despite having carried Michigan, including Wayne County, on the same election infrastructure in 2024, and despite his own Justice Department having deployed federal election monitors to Detroit polling places for the August 4 primary without reporting any complaints. Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett said there were "no problems" with the primary "other than the length of time," adding that county clerks had focused "on security and accuracy instead of expediency."

An Oakland University political science professor, Nicole Matthew, told FOX 2 Detroit that the post "can definitely undermine people's confidence in elections" and could prove "counterproductive" if it discourages Trump's own supporters from voting absentee. Trump's post also referred to El-Sayed, whose full name is Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, as a "Communist" and "Radical Left Socialist."
