Domestic deployment overreach
Domestic deployment overreach is the use of federal armed forces — active-duty military, federalized National Guard, federal law enforcement deployed in military-style roles — against US persons outside the narrow lawful frameworks for such use. The Posse Comitatus Act and a complex of statutory exceptions define the available frameworks; deployment outside them, or under pretextual invocation of them, is the abuse. The publication tracks documented deployments and the legal theories invoked, regardless of which administration ordered them.
